This thread is all about your opinions on copper bullion coins. Good investment? Waste of money? Do you like the different designs? What do YOU think? Post freely!

For the average person Id say its a waste. Even if copper went up a dollar if you had 1 coin youd make what a dollar? The price is just so low the vast majority of people wouldnt have enough space to store the needed amount for it to really be worth it

It's not worthwhile, unless if you're willing to get your hands on tangible and useful goods such as copper wire it's a good idea I guess. But meanwhile, hoarding copper pennies is the best plan of action here.

Waste of money. The one design I actually took the time to look at before I asked the price was cool but not for the premium that was/is charged. I do search penny boxes every now and again and hoard every copper cent I find though. Too heavy to be practical as an investment. What are you gonna do with it when no one will buy it for more than 4.75 a pound in 25 years? I agreed with bekiz and silverdollar2011, Buy silver or buy wire heck buy anyform of copper that isn't bullion at 10.00 or more dollars a pound. As an investment you need to ask yourself do you really see it moving more in price than silver or gold? You may not be able to get as much but dollar for dollar as an investment buy one ounce of silver instead of one pound of copper. If both copper and silver go up 10%. You make 3.00 on the 30.00 paid for the silver or .90 cents on the 9.00 worth of copper you paid 30.00 for. big percentage premiums like one paid for copper are unlikely to be recovered at time you sale

I agree, the price is just way to high on these "bullion" purses.
If you're liking to hoard copper I would suggest pre 1982 Pennies.

I avoid copper bullion. Premium is way too high and you need large amounts of it to make any kind of money. Storage is a major problem.

Waste of time and money. Also space. you might as well buy copper pipe. the premimum on pipe is much lower that that of the bullion

Although I do not advise copper as an investment, I do like the designs on the one ounce coins(medals) But the 1 lb. 10 lb. 1 kilo copper bars unless you really are into them I would stay clear. Just remember it's your collection or hoard, buy what you like!

I'm not a copper collector, although it might be possible to make some money doing that. Many markets tend to be somewhat cyclical, so one could buy low and sell high to realize a profit. If so, they would probably be better off to buy the biggest ingots they could find... 10 lb. minimum. Copper really doesn't appeal to me, though. It has a low value and a large bulk so requires considerable storage if you amass very much of it. It is also fairly dense, so a small volume of it is pretty heavy. I also do not sort through pennies. Waste of time, IMHO, but anyone who does is more than welcome to it. Collecting coins and / or bullion is one of those things that has MANY options, so there really is something for just about everyone... even those who collect copper and nickel.

IMHO.....I also feel copper bullion is a waste of time. However, I put sets of canadian pennies together before they start pulling them from circulation come February. With that said I check dates to find the best of the best for the sets so I have just been pulling the copper anyways. I will deside what to do with them in a year or two. Gotta wait and see what copper prices do and also see if it will be legal to melt. Right now, scrap is paying $2 lb which means if I save a box of them, I can make about $4 a box....which I guess is about a 20% return, but not sure if its gonna be worth it. Maybe get a better rate with volume and higher prices down the road. Time will tell. Cheers!

The only numismatic copper play I'd consider would be pennies.

Copper is NOT a Precious Metal. Every Dollar you put into Copper does not go into Silver/Gold and thus the potential for Opportunity Cost is GREAT.
Plus, the buyback market on copper is not tight, mature, or transparent. It's a crap shoot.
Stick with the PM's.
