Gary don't give up. I'm curious as to how it turns out when you confront them about the charges.

This thread makers me think about a previous post about how coin roll searchers have problems with banks and tellers not wanting to help them when they try and buy rolls. My guess is that they have run into coin collectors who in some form or fashion have made their job difficult. I am afraid that our "Its' our God given right" attitude and go given heck, Gary, is hurting the cause. The only people that move around from job to job in an industry more than in the banking industry are car salesmen. And, you can count on them talking to each other. So, for a little self satisfaction we are going to aggravate a manager and become the talk in the branch. If in fact this manager was outside the lines and ends up in trouble, I promise that no person in that location will ever help a "coin collector" because all they do is cause trouble. Seems like winning the battle and losing the war to me. We are better off not making waves. You never know when you will need that persons help. Yes, the individual was out of bounds. I run into these type of people everyday and I am sure you do to. Just chalk it up to experience and go find one of the very helpful people in the banking industry and nurture that relationship and forget the rest. Ok, I will get off of my soap box, now. Jim

Jim, if that was the attitude during our founding fathers time, we would be speaking with an English accent today. This in no way intended to demean our closest friends and ally, Great Britain... Berry

I think they are violating banking laws. Taking Fed supplied money and directly re-selling at a profit is questionable, at best.
Next thing they'll want to charge you $2 for a new $1 bill?

Well my bank gives me all I want, they are getting hard to find now after the local news here had on about people getting some with errors and selling them for allot of money.
But I have all I want of these, if you just want one of each just wait till the un-circulated coin set comes out and get that it will have one of everything in it.

Jim: Actually I will use the "Happy Medium" approach. Even though I am sometimes sarcastic and my words have an edge to them, I am, 95 percent of the time, pretty laid-back and polite. So, when I go to the credit union again, I will simply proceed with something like "Hi there. Say, I was wondering something. Just out of curiosity, how is it possible to sell circulating coins such as the new dollas, at more than face value?" That way I will get an answer to my question, and won't burn my bridges behind me.

Be interesting to know what you find out! We found out that (at least in Indiana) credit unions who want to sell something that isn't league sanctioned- like the t-shirts I mentioned in my earlier post- have to get a special sales license. It has something to do with being able to collect sales tax. Apparently this license isn't easy to get, either. I know the boss decided it wasn't worth the hassle of getting the license to sell a few shirts. Rachel

I'd check their break room Gary. Might some barbarians waiting in there.
I always though Credit Unions were formed around existing memberships, like associations or unions. The idea being an "Us for Us" arrangement. They don't do that way anymore?

I think Kyra Hit the nail on the head....go back to your credit union and buy 1 prez dollar for 3 dollars and see if they charge tax, if they do not, they would be breaking the law, IMO.
greed is all I see these days.
