hey guys, I just wanted to share a situation that folks are facing in Vietnam, believe it or not but the Chinese are printing fake United States bills (mostly $100 and $20) and then they exchange them for goods in Vietnam exhausting the food supply in most parts of Vietnam. China then exports their inferior and cheaper genetically mutated foods to Vietnam resulting in health deprived overweight children. My aunt just recently shared this, telling me that the masses are started to hoard gold in lieu of US Dollars. It really stinks how the Chinese are doing this. So, I just believe that you certainly can never go wrong with gold and silver there's way too much manipulation and crap going on out there. The media ain't gonna cover this so that's why I'm sharing this with my family. What are your thoughts on this?

Its one of the worst kept secrets that the chinese have been pumping out US dollars for a while. They fake everything else might as well add money to the list.

The Chinese will fake anything, including their own products, which includes Chinese silver coins.

Nevertheless, they are quite capable of making high quality products and backing up those with honoured guarantees. I had a Chinese made TV, which failed. I had it replaced, with a new one direct from the factory in China, bypassing the normal import supply line, and it works just fine. I was told that the TV that failed went back to the factory China to be rebuilt, then sent on to Africa, to be sold there cheaply.

Mercedes-Benz now manufacture the E Class in China, except the AMG versions.

The OP message had been true for the last couple years.

Contaminated food imported from China had infiltrated US market for years, especially in Asian community, mainly because of cheaper price. My family and friends do our best to only buy products made in the US but sometime you just can't find any. One prefect example is young soybeans that are steamed and eat (called Adamame in Japanese - very popular w/ sushi/sashimi).... I've search through all Asian supermarket (Vietnamese, Korean, Japanese, Chinese) and US supermarket (including Costco) and have found ZERO product made in USA.... some of you may have known that USA is one of the largest producer of soybean. All I found was Chinese made Adamame.

Anyone know if Trader Joe carry Adamame made in USA?

Costco actually sources a good deal of their produce from the USA. When it's out of season it's usually from Mexico or Canada, not China.

A lot of their other goods, however, are Chinese made.

Sadness... they are one of the better companies out there too.

Anyways, back to the OP: Aye, the fakes (be they paper or coin) are made in China because it's not illegal in China to do so, and thousands of companies (ranging from cottage industries to large manufacturers) have hopped on this bandwagon. Most of the fakes that currently circulate in the numismatic world are Chinese (the only real exception now being the fake $1 coins from South America, but those are rare outside of their borders).

Thank you Tim.

I have to agree with Steve regarding Costco, most of my household items are from Costco they get about $3K from me each year.... Their customer service is the main reason I shop there.

Im not sure why China seems to be the source of known counterfeiting, but it sucks that everyone has to be careful when they buy expensive things (including gold and silver) so that they are not buying fakes.
I wonder how Chinese investors feel about their own countrymen doing this to the world. What if it was Americans doing this to the rest of the world?
It sucks how just a few counterfeiters can ruin a whole countries reputation, I dont think they deserve such a bad reputation, but why are they always the ones counterfeiting everything? why not India? they have the most people in the world..

Its far more than just a few. Its a large percentage because counterfitting is a multi billion dollar industry. They dont care because it makes them money.

It more than stinks. In days past, counterfeiting a nation's currency was considered an act of war because of the extreme financial damage it could do to the victimized country. IMHO, it still is.

I feel like counterfeiting is one of those evils that is too hard to control. No matter how hard or strict a government is, people will always find a way to do it.
And I agree, it is like an act of war

It *is* a threat to national security. That's why we have the Secret Service.
