As Carmen Sandiego stands in New Hampshire, she sees Vermont across the Connecticut River. She traveled for a couple of hours to get here. New Hampshire: easy to drive north and south, but next to impossible to drive east or west. She headed out on I-93, switched to I-89, got off at exit 12, and took a leisurely back road to reach her destination. A north-west direction from Manchester. Along the way, she spied this little beauty: After three days in a Hotel, Carmen likes to see a bit of the New Hampshire sites. So just two or three miles up the road from the river she reached her goal. Tell me where and why she made the detour? What coin(s) could so make her do so?

Where you in Claremont? The first bridge is the Cornish- Windsor, Which I think is the longest covered bridge in the US.

Here is the front of the house. WHO LIVED HERE? And why do we remember the person with awe? BIG HINT: I did not need to take the tour because I already own poor examples of what this person did. A wealthy collector? An eccentric? Or a genius? PLEASE somebody! Guess correctly so I can get back to my dull, day-to-day routine. Oh, notice the sharp incline? I climbed up and grabbed the pillar on the far left. Darn it it wasn't loose and I almost fell down! Imagine the Headline: Connecticut resident destroys National Historic Site! Luckily, no one saw me.

Bridge number 2 is Blow me Down Bridge. She made the detour to visit the St. Gaudens National Historic Site. The coin that would make her do so is the St. Gaudens Double Eagle.
YES!
P.S. Its the home of Augustus St. Gaudens

"Corn" - was that a clue for "Cornish?" Oh I think so! Now, not more than three miles up the road is the entrance to a National Historic Site which should be held in reverence by the coin collecting community. WHAT IS IT? Why did Carmen travel two hours out of her way to pay her respects?

Oh poopies! tzarmarko guessed correctly. Guess he gets a Barber dime. Double poopies. Two Russians win and the Americans are left in the dust. Not just the $20 piece. He also designed the $10 Indian Head. Kids, I had a lot of fun confusing you all.

Thanks! I had no clue that I was going to win this one. After 5 minutes of research I found this bridge on google maps and by it saw the St. Gaudens National Site. Then I saw a small creek which had the same name as a small covered brdige (Number 2) that I previously saw in my research. I put two and two together, and I won! Thanks for the two great contests!
Russia wins gold! err silver....

After snapping a photo of the bridge, I turned around and saw a sign which pointed out the direction to the Saint-Gauden National Historic Site. Two or three miles up the road I reached my goal: The Connecticut River is only several hundred yards to the left of the road. Strange that no one asked about Clue 1A. Here is the explanation: I arrived at 4:00 PM. I really did not want to take the tour. I only wanted a few pictures. The admission to the park is $5. I explained my plan to the guard and he said, "Since it is late and you only want to take a few pictures, you can go in." He then gave me this sticker. I thought that it was some kind of secret code. The next day I took another look. AHH! Augustus St.G. himself. Now, I have to get in touch with january1may to figure out a way to send a dime to Russia!

Like HelzelsCoins, I got here too late to play along but it was a lot of fun to read.
It looks like you had a nice side trip and got some really nice pictures.

Sometimes, we should all take break from coins; just long enough to walk along side a garden and to ponder what a sculptor and coin designer was thinking as he and his family enjoyed this lovely site.
It WAS coin related, the contest, and I feel closer to Mr. Saint-Gaudens for having made the pilgrimage.
