Although it's kinda sad. At $28 I was waiting for it to go down to $26 before buying anything else...

You may be waiting a good while if you won't buy till it goes to $26. Looks to me like there is a pretty solid floor at about $30. Better to just buy the dips rather than set prices, you may miss out. I may be wrong and you guys may be right in this crazy volatile world, but I need to keep adding so I will buy any reasonable dip.

Listening to people talk it seems like many here view Silver as a volatility trade instead of a long term value investment. I will need to ponder that.

I am in silver and gold for the long term! With the premiums I have had to pay to get silver, buying and selling makes less sense to me than long term holding. On average, for my total hoard,I have paid just under $20/oz. I could sell and make a nice profit, but I could never buy it back down the road for that price. I plan to hold for at least 4-5 more years unless I need to liquidate for some reason.

You may very well be right. But I can't help thinking of last year when silver was above $40 and very few people dreamed it would drop to $27 by the end of the year (which it did). Either way, the good news is that I now own enough silver to feel relatively comfortable if it shoots up to $50 and never comes back down. If it drops below $30 I'll probably buy some more, but I no longer feel that I need to keep buying in bulk at every opportunity lest I miss the boat. And in the mean time I'll just keep buying small amounts of collectible silver, like the 5-ounce ATBs and the yearly ASEs.

Its just hard to ignore that fact that over the last 100 years every spike has eventually gone away and its settled back down to 5 dollars. 5 dollar pricing may not come again but its not unreasonable to think it could get back down below 20. We saw a similar spike in the late 70s early 80s and sure enough it eventually went away.

Id say its more of a hedge then an investment at these current prices

Based on past history, here's what I predict the near future will hold....

Sometime before the end of the year, the price of silver will drop below $30 again. I will immediately rush out and make a large purchase (perhaps another monster box, some 100-ounce bars, etc.), based on the fact that my wife has said we should buy a bunch if it drops again. Right after my purchase, silver will then drop at least another $2-3 and my wife will yell at me for not waiting longer. Because of amount of money I just spent I won't buy anything else even though silver is around $27. A few months later, silver will start to take off again and, when it hits $34 my wife will once again tell me that I should buy a bunch if and when it ever drops below $30 again.

Rinse and repeat...

I'm still waiting for it to hit $50 a ounce so I can unload my "Not-So-Junk" junk silver...
Last year when it almost reached that, I went through most of my silver coins and set some aside... If requested, I could post photos of my "Not-So-Junk" junk silver so you can see what's available at spot (if it should ever go back up)...

Broken-Coin,

The problem is that if silver ever does hit $50, I doubt any of us will actually be buying...
