I bought this Chinese item recently. It seems to be dated to 1919. Beyond that...? Possibly a receipt of some kind, or a tax document? Any help appreciated!
If someone doesn't answer soon I can come up with a complete translation in a couple weeks (we are out of school for a while). I will just take it to my Chinese III teacher, she is from mainland China and would love to help.
Hi YoungNumismatist, that would be a great help - thank you! And thanks to her. 1st time I've managed to get back on here so sorry for taking a few days to reply.
I am not sure whether the answer of a question posted 2012 is still wanted.
This is a tax receipt, issued by the tax office of Gutian County (#21476;#30000;#21439;), Fujian Province. It's a kind of grain tax which farmers had to pay. The receipt says that somebody paid grain tax of 8 Fen and 0 Li or exactly 4 Fen (#32902;#20998;#28961;#21400;), the receipt is dated July 3, 9th year of the Republic, which means 1920. 1 Fen is 0.01 Yuan, 1 Li is 0.001 Yuan. So the tax was rather low. It is said that this is tax due for the 8th year of the Republic (1919). Sorry if my English is not perfect. Erwin
