I'm sure the recipients of your plasma would not begrudge you having both dollars, dizzy. I've never opened a vein to get a coin into my collection, but neither can I say that any of my coins have saved a life!

I would tend to go with the VF w/o chopmarks. Mainly because alot of my older coins (especially the Seated dollars and other pricier coins) in my 7070 tend to be around VG+ to VF and if it was AU it might awkwardly stand out against some of my other coins. Also I would prefer to not have any marks, PMD, or dings to coins if possible (although chopmarks are obviously common on Trade dollars). Plus as an added bonus you would have $35 that you saved to spend on another nice coin! Edited by spaceace

I'm in the exact same boat as dizzy. Finally decided my 7070 needs that Trade dollar and, even though I've got no plasma money, I've set aside a few small windfalls of extra cash for the big purchase. One or more attractive chopmarks that don't take away from the design would be my choice, as I'd be a fan of the history and story behind the piece. Assuming the chopmarks are not fake, aren't they then an additional indicator of genuineness of a raw coin?  I'll be anxious to see what you get, dizzy. Post pics when you make your pick. |

I'll be going into examine them next Monday, I actually could get it early if I wanted because I just had my own little ebay windfall that would pay for one of the coins but I might leave that in my paypal account for ebay coins and Christmas purchases. Spaceace I am trying to put the nicest type set together I can, so a VF Trade dollar will look odd on that page with a MS Peace and Morgan. I likely will end up with Vf or XF liberty Seated dollars but eventually down the road I might upgrade those since you have a good coin to trade in on a upgrade. |

I went in and took some photos, I am not that great of a photog though so was still having trouble verifying them. I did print out a way to detect counterfeits and what to look for. The weight was .92 troy ounces for both coins problem is I weighed them in the 2x2's, so when I go back in on Monday I am going to ask if I can remove one from the 2x2 since they were the same weight and reweigh it.
I am leaning towards the VF, I am going to examine both close and look for all the counterfeit issues and then reweigh and decide if its real then.

Weigh a 2x2 and subtract it from the weight of the 2x2ed coin.
Id go with VF for a typeset - you want an examplary one. Chopmarks are for history and 7070s, to the best of my knowledge, are to show off the designs.
