These are not supposed to be released to the public until 2013, but some were stolen from a courier service off a plane in Philadelphia today. The first link is the article, the second a photo of what these look like so if someone tries to pass one off on you you'll know what it looks like.

So much for security, maybe is an inside job.

Obviously, they can't be spent or deposited. Even if hoarded for 50 years and then spent/traded, I'm sure someone would be earning jail time. Pretty stupid and worthless "robbery". Would have done better taking the luggage from the plane.

If this person goes to a country like Russia, they will be ecstatic to take them off his hands.

Too bad Now the counterfieters will get a jump on creating bogus notes and sliding them into circulation.

I wouldn't want to be the guy that lost the notes!!!

That was one of the first country's I thought of, was there in Aug. of 1991, all I can say is it was "interesting", and did a lot of stuff while I was there. It was bad then and from what I hear it's worst now.

Maybe they will just change the design now. The security was pretty low for the notes anyway for 2012.

That is definitely an inside job, done by the courier. They must have known what they were carrying and not too bright to steal some, since they are so unique and not available yet.

And it is great to hear they are going to finally release them next year, hopefully.

Thanks for sharing it.

I hope not. I believe these new notes were to be released early last year. Had trouble with printing the intricate design then.

It ended up being one of the handlers at the airport. All of the money was still wrapped in the original package and was recovered.

I'm betting...I've been through Philadelphia airport a lot as I live near that area, and security is pretty tight.

That note is beautiful! Very European/Canadian look. I hope this doesn't change anything . . . that's just gorgeous.
