They are available now on line from a dealer for $60 which is still high. But, prices for the Wolf are pushed by two factors IMO. It was the first of a series, and many of them have milk spots so getting one that is clean is tougher. I don`t see it as a comparable with the Goldline coin. The 1812 bullion very well could turn out to be a numismatic hit (a few have even sold on ebay for over $58) but only time will tell.

The animal series is minted by the Royal Canadian Mint AKAIK. Additionally, I won an 1812 3/4 on ebay for $53 Canadian shipped, which is a few dollars more than i'd like, but I love the design. IMHO, that is what the 2012 Proof Silver Dollar should have been.

@Dcadon and thehulk: And herein lies the gray area between a lump of silver and the one and only coin. I can see why the 1/2oz wolf commands a premium though. It is the first 1/2oz silver bullion coin the RCM minted, the first time the RCM deviated considerably away from the maple leaf design in a bullion silver coin, it's limited to 106,800 pieces, and it is a precursor/test coin to the now extremely popular wildlife series. It ain't nuts if you enjoy it and doubly so if you can turn around and make a profit.

this 1812 coin and the animal series are truely bullion coins yet the public treats them like a nclt coin. that is why you cant just use bullion value as its sole price justification. I was surprised to see many buyer eagerly paying $70 for wolf and 55 for grizzly coins on saturday at torex. even goldline with a monopoly on this coin is able to charge a $10 premium to well informed american investors.

There are lots of these 3/4oz coins on ebay now, most in the $50-55 range BIN. I only see one up for actual auction, it is currently at $41 with over a day to go. Looking at completed listings, only 3 have sold so far, for $50, $52 and $53. I have no problem with people trying to make a buck off of these, but it doesn't look like many are moving at these prices. I surprised the 1.5oz Polar Bear isn't on ebay yet...

the 1.5oz polar bear the dealer will not sell to canadians in order to get it you would have to fly to LA buy a box for around 20,000.00 then you have the problems with custums on return.

I bought 2 of these coins on ebay for my collection. $50 each one. May be they are purely bullion, but the design is great, so they will find a place in the collection. BIN of $52 is, IMO, fair price for this coin - design, theme, single distributor. I do not mention to resell it. And thanks to seller, which actually "got" this coin for me, buying tube or more. There is no problem at all to give him earn some extra bucks.

Yes, Silveroid! I agree with what you're saying, these aren't strictly bullion only coins. There are a fair amount of "collectible bullion" coins out there, such as the Wildlife series. At least that series can be had just over spot at issue time anyways. Really, at $50 no one is getting rich selling these, considering what you need to pay Goldline for them. I still might get one because I agree with you that they look fun. I suppose the bigger problem I have with these is that the RCM would make a coin available only through a select distributor, and a distributor in a country that has a completely different interpretation of the event being commemerated. But whatever, either I'll get one or not!

Thank you Rockdaddy and thehulk! I agree with you. But who knows, it even could be, that Goldline ordered this issue from RCM, when actually counting us, Canadians, as their target group for these coins. And their premium not so low, could be a good profit for the company.

of the 70,000 coins sold asof oct.15 my guess is over 99 percent was sold to americans, they are willing to pay the 10 markup per coin. my problem is as dicussed before , why is the RCM creating a canada dollar coin for a us company?
