For some reason...
This makes me think of this disputed quote possibly from Lincoln:

Quote:
I see in the near future a crisis approaching that unnerves me and causes me to tremble for the safety of my country. . . . corporations have been enthroned and an era of corruption in high places will follow, and the money power of the country will endeavor to prolong its reign by working upon the prejudices of the people until all wealth is aggregated in a few hands and the Republic is destroyed.

-U.S. President Abraham Lincoln, Nov. 21, 1864

Not exactly good stuff is it...

What is the benefit of being elected the Chief Kahuna in Zimbabwe? Not much. It's a bit like owning the best house in a burned out and abandoned neighborhood.

By the time that happens theyll be long gone. Most of the people with those policies are the old guard. Its the younger members in congress and the senate that are legitimately worried about the future. When your 60 or 70 40 years down the line doesn't concern you.

A lot of them certainly do but it is far from "everyone". I fully understand that it is difficult to pull a hog's head out of the trough. But it truly needs to be done IF we wish to remain a viable country. If we do not, then the gloves will come off, the system will collapse, and a dictatorship will likely follow. Not a happy ending to what was one 'the greatest country on Earth'. I fervently hope that it does not come to this, although it may. All I can say about that eventuality is that IF it happens, it will be because we deserve it.

I agree itll be because we deserve it. I used everyone as short hand. Its not everyone but it is a significant percentage of the population, if it wasnt there would have been even more massive turn over in the 2010 elections and it would have been very clear if you want to keep your job cut the spending and make it work. Yet the man in charge of the senate whose yet to produce a budget in 4 years was reelected. Like you said its our own fault. Most people cant even be bother to vote.

One things for sure though our culture has changed to where a lot of people think theyre entitled to what others have. A lot of people make it sound like the government is doing you a favor allowing you to keep any money from taxes, then of course theres rich celebrities (which sadly people pay more attention too than actual things that matter) who charge charities for appearances for fund raisers.

Its a lot like what we see in Greece. People may want things to change but no one is willing to give anything up to make it happen

Those of us with kids and grand kids care very much what kind of country and world we leave to them. I would agree that the narcissists out there do not see this side of it, as everything in their world is about them and not others. Unfortunately, it is just this type who become career politicians. The Founding Fathers were brilliant men but even they never envisioned anyone so pathetic as to actually want to have a career in politics. If they had, there would have been term limits established for every elective office.

I understand that completely. Just wanted to raise the issue.

This shows a pitiful education, IMO. They needed to spend more time reading the writings of the great minds of the world and less time staring like mindless idiots at video games and TV. In spite of what these people think, they are NOT entitled to anyone else's property... ever.

Exactly. I would be concerned about the next generation as well, but when youre power hungry staying is office is first and everything else comes second

Couldnt agree more. If the government took a million dollars from someone and gave it to me I would return it, I dont agree with taking things from people no matter their income level (assuming they arent an evil dictator). Now if that same person wanted to give me that money out of their own kindness thats a different story. I dont like the idea that just because someone has more others are entitled to it, otherwise Id be handing out my address where you all can send some silver
