The influence of women in Imperial Rome,is larger than it seems .... and I find that their coins, are more attractive than those of the emperors, especially the few sestertii and denarii. Julia MAMMAEA Julia Mamaea, mother of Severus Alexander. 226 AD. Æ Sestertius (19.78 gm). IVLIA MAMAEA AVGVSTA, diademed and draped bust right / VES-TA, S-C across fields, Vesta standing left, holding Palladium and sceptre. RIC IV 708 Iulia DOMNA(I can´t found exactly number, because observe legend,is not that...?) RIC 584[carac] sear5 #7113

I really like these large coins and wish I had more in my collection. These are two nice coins, however the Julia Domna looks to be tooled a bit especially along the hairline.

No one seemed to like Faustina II as daughter when I posted it the first time but I'll try it here just to see if I really can reuse photos uploaded before.

IMHO the Julia Domna portrait is one of the best of her dies from the middle period when the IVLIA AVGVSTA legend was in use. There are nice dies from all periods but here she looks younger and cuter than any other period including her first year coins.

dougsmit => on the contrary, I voted your Faustina II as the second best coin that you snagged at your previous coin show ... it has a nice, warm feeling to it ... good looking coin!! https://goccf.com/t/131145

I'm wagering $10 that Bing will now post his classic butt-shot of Julia Domna ... another beautiful coin!!

Steve: I'm not Bing so you don't win but this is my coin from the (IMHO) best early period die of JD. I'd love to have one with details (head or tail) but this is what I have.

I would post my Julia Domna, Jerry, but it is a Denarius and this thread is about Sestertius with women and I only own one. It's a Faustina Sr., but it's in rather poor condition. I like your Faustina II coin Doug. It has a very nice portrait.
