Nice pickup, Harry! I seem to see a lot of mislabeled pre-1860 copper on ebay, though most commonly it's farthings listed as halfpennies, or halfpennies listed as pennies! Lots of new arrivals this week. Check it out 1937 Half-Crown 1914 Shilling 1918 Shilling 1953 Shilling English Crest 1953 Shilling Scottish Crest 1902 Sixpence 1937 Silver Threepence 1937 Brass Threepence

Bought this today. Yes, I know it looks odd next to all the nice round milled stuff, but if the seller's scales are correct it's full weight. And finding coins with a decent portrait from these later issues under the King (1640-41, so last-but-one before Parliament took control) isn't easy. Tower (of London) issue shilling of Charles I:

Thanks Guys!
Yes, a little double struck and the seller said there are some scratches, so I guess the final verdict will have to wait until I receive it. But on the basis of the photos it seems to be a very acceptable (and better than average) example, despite the irregular flan, so I'm hopeful.
And it didn't break the bank, which is always good too!

I forgot I can't edit a reply after a day. Anyway, here's a pic of the shilling 'in the hand'. Need I say I'm very pleased with it?

So much history behind that coin, Tom. A truly remarkable piece! Unfortunately for me though, likely way over my budget. Here's a quite nicely toned 1902 3pence trapped in NGC plastic (scratches on the holder):

But at £67 (including postage) which at 'budget crisis' rates is a bit over $100, I didn't think it was particularly expensive either.

A few days ago I got a 1931 half penny, nothing special, just thought I'd share.

Very Nice coins everyone. Keep the photo's coming. I know we can all use some inspiration for our next purchase. So don't be shy about sharing your U.K. coin photo's. It doesn't have to be "special" or expensive or rare or old or new. Just has to be a U.K. coin that you own and you like.

Well, I just paid for this, although I haven't had an invoice from the auctioneers yet, so I guess it must be mine! Another shilling from the Tower mint of Charles I dating from 1636-38: A nice example for the type which is scarce (I know of 12 other such coins). Interestingly (to me at least!) the dies for this bust went on to be used for coins struck at the King's Aberystwyth mint during the (English) Civil War. Hence (by a slightly reverse sort of logic) it's known as an 'Aberystwyth style' bust, even though the dies were made in London.
