Thanks Ben, it was the best display solution I could come up with.

Thank you philadelphian, the link is informative.

I supposed the "eagle" is an emblem of the royal family or else but now I know that it is an actual object used in the coronation of the kings. Do anyone know the Ampulla and Anointing Spoon are now exhibited in the Tower of London or anywhere else? Henry

OK some long overdue sharing and public THANK YOU'S from deals completed early last week/late last month:

The other three coins that BenByfield sent me:

A maklouf set from DavidUK:

And some nifty pennies, also from DavidUK, that in hand feel a little grimy, enough to suggest that an acetone bath would help them:

lower right is a 1910.

all in all:

One of mine. A shilling of Charles I dating from between 29 June 1626 and 27 April 1627, so quite a short period of issue and probably the rarest of the mint marks for the reign.

Oddly a coin I bought through a US auction house, now back home in England!

Very pretty, Tom. An 1800 Draped Bust US dollar recently found in a drawer in Scotland, and posted on our forum, was recently sold in London and repatriated, so I suppose we're all even now. I believe I recognize that mintmark; remind me, what's the most current politically-correct euphemism we're naming it these days?

The current term for the mark is 'Negro's Head' philadelphian.

Thanks Bacchus! My first with the mark and so I'm rather pleased it's a nice one too!

(Sorry. I presume there's a way to quote other posts more elegantly in replies, but haven't found it yet!)

Perhaps it's time we went back to "blackamoor's head;" not that the pseudo-Shakespearean language is any less distasteful than my grandfather's! Incidentally, it's the word "quote" in square brackets at start of phrase, then [/quote] at the end.

I picked up this half puffin recently and I am quite taken by it. I had a full Puffin a couple of years ago and now regret selling it as I would now like the pair. Oh well.

There's no reason such a good topic should go to waste, so I'll bring it back to life with this very nice penny I received in the mail today.

Post-Your-United-Kingdom-Great-Britain-Coin-Acquisitions.

The first piece of a 1911 circulation set I hope to complete some day (minus the gold, probably). Am working on 1902, 1937, and 1953 sets as well.

Those Lundy puffins are interesting. Is there any way to tell the originals from later restrikes?

I think the restrikes are dated 1965 rather than 1929.

Here's a recent acquisition I won for about $5 U.S. including shipping. 1858 One Penny mistakenly listed at auction as a 1/2 penny, so I was surprised when it arrived and was much larger. But I am not complaining.
