I have been wanting to upload my burgeoning crown collection, but I have not had the time. I thought I would just upload my newest piece, this nice 1821 King George IIII piece. You may be wondering why this coin is in somewhat rough condition. My collection is a type set of each monarch, going back to Cromwell, and each obverse. So for example, I will only have one William IV crown, I will have 3 Victorian. My goal is to first get an affordable version of all the non-Cromwell monarchs, and upgrade them to VF over the next few years. In the meantime, I will be saving for the Cromwell piece. I plan on acquiring only one Cromwell, so I want to make it count. The main holes I have now are Anne and William & Mary. I am working on the former as we speak.

Anjohl, I like your collection focus, it is very similar to mine although I don't include copper, bronze, gold, Maundy, proofs or patterns - only circulating silver! Even with those limitations, it is very challenging to get one of each type, in a pleasing grade!
Good luck with the William IV crown, I believe they were only produced as proofs and you would be lucky to pick one up in any condition!
Did you mean to say each obverse type, or each reverse?

Paulus, I am more specific. Only one of each Monarch Obverse Crown coin, back to Cromwell. I may go father back depending on my career progression. So for example, I will own one Charles II Crown, one Queen Anne Crown, three Victorian, one George IIII, etc.
I am assuming this collection will take me 20 years or more. I will get the first stage, Charles II to Elizabeth II, then either work on Cromwell, or work back through the English Crown Series. I have to price the latter to decide if I will include the English pieces, or just the British.

I too am trying to do a monarch set but without a focus on denomination or metal. I enjoy the variety of pre-decimal denominations, so having as many as possible interests me. I'm attempting to go back to William The Conqueror, one of each with a couple exceptions. Here are a few of my more recent additions. I have a LONG way to go.

Made a visit to my local dealer this morning, he handed me 2 bags of coins - 1 all Irish, the other Victorian pennies.
Going through the Irish, theres 2 halfcrown. 1955&1964 both vf. 3 2s, 1951, 1961 and 1964 all vf, 2 1964 1s, 1 ef, 1 vf. 4 6d, 1928 (f)1942 (f)1962 (vf) 1964 (vf) Single halfpenny, 1942 (f) 1 1933 Farthing (vf)
Decimal Irish: 1 Unc Millennium punt. 9 10p various dates and grades. 6 5p again various dates and grades. Plus 1 1990 penny that looks BU.
In the other bag there were 19 clear date pennies(Victorian) all Fair to fine, plus 6 halfpennies, clear dates, fair to fine, apart from the 1862 which looks vf.
Also in the bag was a clipped Sixpence dated 1962, but for me the star was an Irish halfpenny dated 1775 which was fair to fine with the most amazing double struck date and legends I've ever seen.
All for 10 Quid :)

Wish I had the loose change to collect like some here but I have decided to 'slowly' put together a set of Victorian coins (not a type set) of all denominations in at least EF Picked up this penny a while back And just added this common date Half Crown as it took my eye On to the Gothic Florin next (ouch!)

Very nice Half Crown, indeed. The 1887 Jubilee year was heavily 'collected' by the population as souvenirs, so there are a lot of AU-UNC specimens out there. I splurged on a UNC 1887 Double Florin this week, can't wait for it to arrive, it's going to be a showpiece. Anjohl, I like your collecting focus. Take a look at my reply to your Crown storage methods, you might want to consider the Coin World slabs, I really like them. My collection is about 400 coins, so I'm going to spend about $500 this year in buying all the right slabs, but the 75 coins slabbed so far are very nicely presented and stored. Even a VF 20 kind of coin has eye appeal in these things, if you are buying the right VF 20 specimens. Hadn't thought of this, but if I upgrade any of the coins in the slabs, just open the slab, replace the coin, and done. No cost for a new holder, just put the old coin in a flip and sell it off.

I might look into slabs or capsules, and some sort of display box. I have time on my side, as I doubt the collection will be complete anytime before 10-15 years from now.

after months of waiting..... now I've got the 2 rarer dates of 20th century pennies, apart from the 1933. pity about that huge ding on the obverse though, and to top it off, another 1951 penny was listed shortly after I checked out and sold for only 30+ dollars. guess this is what happens when you jump in too early. at least there's trace lustre though. So what do you guys think? does it make an AU or better?
