I want to start using E-bay to sell some of my coins, but I am afraid of botching an order and getting a bad rating.
Anyone experienced at using ebay? Need advice, I don't understand any of the bells and whistles there.

I think just the fact that you are concerned means you are already more than half way there. Fast shipping is probably the #1 concern of most people. Send them a message and you're golden. Make sure whatever you're sending is adequately protected. Delivery Confirmation is probably a good idea. Good luck!

Is there a way to set the number of days that you wish bidding to last?

I have used ebay a couple of times to sell some tokens. When you first start setting up an auction, you can choose how long it will run for. I believe you have the option of 1, 3, 5 or 7 days. The best advice I can give is to thoroughly read the "how to sell" section under "Welcome to ebay". It has a ton of info on how to get started.

You can also use a 10 day bid but that costs extra. Make sure to have the bidding end at a reasonable time or else youll get lower prices. Shipping is easy just ship it out the next day and anything of value have tracking or delivery confirmation and youll be fine. Items of significant value flate rate priority mail is good. If theres any delays communication is key. There will always be problem buyers no matter what you do so if it happens and youve done everything right you have some protection and just make sure to block them for future bids. If you want you can sell some low value items around the house to build up your feedback and to test the waters but its pretty easy. Have accurate pictures as well, dont doctor them up to get a higher price and you will be fine

Ive been selling on ebay for about 2 months now and I can give you a few hints from mistakes I made.

Spend the extra 10 cents and use the designated time auction ends. I usually use 7PM because Pacific time is the time used on ebay. Means you can get Eastern till 10PM. Had one of my auctions go off at 3 in the morning.

Don't go overboard on your description but make sure you get it right.

Check your category closely that the coin will be put into. Don't put Ike dollars in with Lincoln cents as I did.

Use ebays labeling for shipping. Could not be easier and saves money over the PO because you get tracking for free where the PO charges almost a dollar extra for tracking.

I found that coins seem to do better on Friday through Sunday so that's when I have them listed to end for. This is just my opinion. I like to use 5 days for a listing.

Big topic. Don't overwhelm yourself by putting too many to go off at the same time. Do 3 or 4 the first couple of times. Space them out to have them go off 10 minutes or so apart so your not bouncing back and forth.

You can revise them after they are listed so a listing is not definite. I do it on a regular basis.

Don't let one low price sale bother you.

Do remember when its time to pay up ebay will take about 10 percent off the top of your selling price. They will be giving you a running list of the costs.

Almost forgot. Buy yourself a small $3-4 dollar food scale or your will be constantly on the Forum ask these members how much this and that weighs, etc. But they will be glad to help you anyway.

That's it. I can say its been very easy because ebay and PayPal does most of the work like invoices, etc. Of course for 9% they should. I found the hardest part was putting the packages together.

You can look at my sales for info. Its under xyguy12 on ebay. Got rid of close to 200 wheat rolls and 50 PCGS slabs so far. They were only sitting around anyway. Next its on to military stuff and my toy trains.

Just my opinions and thoughts

The one thing I have noticed on ebay that seems imporant is your reputation. if you are a new seller they wil most likely not bid your coins as high. try selling some coins that you can take a loss on first so that you get the hang of selling

Or you can be an ebay penny pincher like me and save the 10 cents by just saving the listing for later and then at the time I want it to end (between 9-10 eastern) I go back to it and list it then.

The 10 cents doesn't sound like much but adds up fast if you sell things consistently or over the course of a while.

Also friday nights are terrible days for auctions to end.

See what I mean about this Forum. These guys are experienced experts on ebay. Listen to them and you will get a lot of good info. I know I did. As one member said your reputation (feedback)is important and since you don't have any yet I would listen to him and put up a few easy things first till you get some good feedback.

I mentioned Fridays because I've had good luck selling on that day. Of course its only been about 20 items and you probably have more experience for selling that day than I do.

Edgman I actually missed that part where you mentioned that. I've had some luck on fridays as well, its just so hit or miss it can be frustrating especially for a new seller to literally see every item go unsold on a friday night. Right now in general seems to be a lot better time to be buying than selling in general
