I have to say, I'm rather surprised by the price, given the type and condition.
Probably something I missed. nice curve-ball.

Now, a history lesson: This coin is what is known as a "Medium Letter" reverse of the 1840 "O" Seated Liberty half dollar. New Orleans used an old 1838 ( Capped Bust half dollar) reverse with a newer 1840 obverse die. Since the 1838 Capped Bust half dollar had its mint mark on the obverse, this coin was minted without any mint mark at all. This particular half dollar was bought from Rich Uhrich at Rich Uhrich's Rare Coins web site. http://www.richuhrichcoins.com/I had been looking for a Medium Lettered Reverse for years. (These don't come up for sale very often). This is his write-up of this coin: Quote: 1840- (O) Medium Letters VF-35, lt. clnd., 2nd obverse The rare 2nd obverse, identified by die lines in the rock support below Liberty's foot, and the weak area around the lower arrow feathers and olive stem (weakness caused by die polishing). The 2nd obverse is identified by die lines in the rock support below Liberty's foot. The reverse has weak lower arrow feathers and olive stem, caused by die polishing. Bill Bugert has seen fewer than 10 of these, and he estimates it to be an R6. And since I am lucky enough to have both types of 1840 (O) Half Dollars, we can all compare and contrast! The reverse die polishing really shows up on the lack of lower arrow feathers on the second coin and the bottom of the olive branch/stem. 1840 (O) Seated Liberty Half Dollars (1st & 2nd Obverses)

hmm I thought there was more. I had noticed what you mentioned, but to me I don't understand the price. Could you elaborate on why you settled on that price? You don't have to, of course.
