Been there, done that...ticking off the wife that is, especially when you just bought a house to fix up.

Oh God, I guess I'm lucky I'm still new to this and my wife still thinks it's cool that I invest in coins. I think she thinks I'm gonna turn them around quick for cash. I guess after a few years she'll realize when I still have every coin and not sold a single one she'll realize that I plan on keeping theem LOL

*Below is the number one reason a coin collector needs to be nice to his wife*
From personal experience I can tell you that reguardless of how much your wife may not like you purchasing coins (or any other item she doesn't like), she will love your investment should you ever go through a divorce and her lawyers demand half the value... In hindsight, I never would have mentioned to the now ex how much everything was worth as it bit me in the butt buying back my own coins to give her half the value.

Just lookin' though some old threads and came across this Syracuse Hippocamp again. I really like this coin, both the obverse and reverse. In fact, it may be the only Hippocamp I've seen "bridled". Outstanding.
TJ made a comment about the sprues on opposite sides. Are these actually sprues, and, if so, does that mean this coin is cast rather than struck?

If I remember correctly, the flan is cast and they didn't remove the sprues. Then it was struck
