This coin, in spite of a mintage of 15 million, has a price of $90 in VF20 and $175 in XF40
- see http://www.ngccoin.com/poplookup/Wo...mSearch=true

I have 2 specimens see below.

The weight is correct.

Is this price correct ?

I remember discussing prices of after-WW2 coins of Hungary in an older thread. My take on it was that when the Peoples Republic started issuing its own coins in the 1950's they removed and destroyed most of the 1st Republic's coinage. So despite the high mintage, I suspect, there are not many survivors.

Very unique, I know the thousands upon thousands of world coins I've gone through, I have yet to see one of those. I think svslav has hit it on the head tho.

I also have 2 of these coins and I think they are rare but not 90 to 175$ rare. Because I dont think it would be that easy for me finding two 100$ coins in flee market along with some junk coins in range of few months.

I understand why new political regimes and rulers might want to withdraw the coinage of a previous regime or ruler, but the Hungarian people's republic 5, 10, 20 and early 50 filler coins weren't different from those issued during the first republic.

If there was a demonetisation of the first republic coins, it's bound to have been recorded.

Perhaps some of our Hungarian members can enlighten us ?

The values are quite realistic. Where and when they were acquired has no bearing on value. I have dealt in world coins for over 30 years and have never happened upon one.

As well stated before, many were likely destroyed by the new government to make its own coins.
