Poppy Quarters

I thought that since today is Remembrance day that this would be an appropriate time to bring it to the forum. I have been a fan of the 25 cent colorized poppy quarters since they were first minted, and love all that they represent. I was disappointed, however, to see that the mint didn't produce one this year.

I may be incorrect, but I believe past poppy issues have been in direct recognition of significant anniversaries (eg 2004, 60th anniversary of D-day, 2008 90th anniversary of Armistice). With the dozens of quarter varieties they produce each year, I think the Mint should issue a new poppy design every November 11th as well.

I don't want to too harsh on the Mint, I think the coins they've issued in the past do a great job recognizing Canadian veterans, but I don't think the magnitude of the soldiers' sacrifice has been mirrored by the Mint's commemorative program (nor can it!). To me, it's a shame that the Mint celebrates the corporate ad-fest Olympics with dozens of coin designs every other year, but can't find time to stamp out a reasonable quantity of poppy quarters every year.
