Is the whole line raised or is there a valley in the middle of the line with raised sides?

I believe the whole line is raised. What would something like this be worth if it is a die about to break?

Thats a pretty nice Die Crack. From the pictures it appears its a raised line across.

I don't think it would be called a "die crack" but a "cracked die" or "broken die". Nice. John1  |

Looks like a rim to rim die crack, a precursor to a split die. If the crack thickens and the design is offset, then the crack has deepened enough to signal die failure. I would value this one at $2 - $4. Alan Herbert has good information on this in his Official Price Guide to Mint Errors.

Thanks for the info, I wonder if their are more out their with the split bigger and if the die, ever broke broke.

It is an angled cut that caused vertical displacement of the metal, not a die crack. The line does not go rim-to-rim, you can see an interruption in the lines right next to the rim and then corresponding cuts on the rim @the you of TRUST and the dot next to the date. A die crack would not display an interruption like that but a cut certainly would.

I agree with Biokemist6. I looks like PMD to me and has no numismatic value. In my above post I was trying to lead to this. I think if the coin was viewed under a scope or high magnification you will see a valley where the metal was pushed up to form the ridge. |
