This half has a diamond grid stamped on the reverse.
A coin shop guy told me it was a possible waffle error - I have no idea what that is. Another forum thought it was a stamp through error.
the rim is higher and sharp.
Any ideas?

It is like a wire mesh was pushed into the coin - it is grooved in a diamond pattern - also has a lot of small "pinprick" areas dappled all over it.

I dont think anything is wrong with the coin itself- it appears to have been glued to a textured surface which left the grid impression. The raised parts are the glue residue and the "pinpricks" I believe were air bubbles left as the glue dried. Notice that the raised areas have an unnatural yellowish-green tint.

Very astute observations, Biokemist. I believe you've solved the mystery.

That was my feeling as well ,but sometimes a picture looks different as far as raised incused than what they appear .

I wanted to claify what I was seeing .

Im glad that Bio also came to the same conclusion !!
