Hi All, I'm looking for help finding tokens that were hand minted in .99 silver for the Lafayette Coin Club back in the 70s. (That's Lafayette LA by the way). The obverse design of this series is similar to a medieval silver penny; center image divided into four quarters, within a circle of pearls, with the words "LAFAYETTE • COIN • CLUB". The reverse contains the year and an animal (different animal for each year). The only reference I could find to these coins/tokens online was this: http://dewardt.net/Lafayette%20Coin%20Club.pdf. My father collected a few of these when he lived in the Lafayette area and I would like to help him find the years that he does not already have. I believe that his coins cover the years 72-74 and have reverse images of an alligator, crawfish, and some bird (Egret?). Any ideas where I could find more of these tokens? I tried coin shops in Lafayette but no luck. Thanks, J Edited by jslade 12/07/2012 3:08 pm

Quote: I've tried both and no luck. Finding less common tokens and medals takes diligent searching of sites such as ebay. While ebay is a great place to find things, it can takes weeks, months or longer before a scarcer item you are looking for is listed by someone. If you don't already have an ebay account, set one up. Once you have an account, create one or more custom searches for the Lafayette Coin Club medals you are looking for and set them up so that your are sent an email when matches are found. My guess is that, eventually, one or more of the medals will appear on ebay, but unless you are diligent and systematic with your searches you may not know it's there! Good luck!

, it may take some time to find what you're searching for, but that will make the catch that much more rewarding when you do find. and good luck on your search.

Way to stick with it. I don't know where you live but a visit to the club might give you a bunch of leads. And even easier, have you inquired on the club's facebook account?
