"Canada's Last 1 Cent Coin
Extremely Low Mintage Predicted
After a 154 year history, Canada's one cent coin was officially discontinued on May 4, 2012. While 2012 mintage figures will not be released until the spring of 2013, these coins are nearly impossible to find in change, reminiscent of the rare 1991 quarter (which now sells for about $500 per roll). To make this issue even more interesting, two distinctly different types of coins were produced during the short production run. The first coins were produced using magnetic copper plated multiply steel blanks, while coins produced after this first run were struck using non-magnetic copper plated zinc blanks. While both varieties appear to be scarce, we have found the copper plated steel coins to be the most difficult to obtain.
While our supplies last, we are pleased to offer original mint rolls and original mint boxes of both major varieties of Canada's last 1 cent coin. We also have a small quantity of original sealed mint boxes date stamped on the very last day of issue, May 4, 2012. Individual mint rolls come with a custom "Last Issue" special wrap. Original mint boxes include standard shrink wrap rolls without a special custom wrap. "
