Hello all, have you taken a look at the 2013 official UK circulating coins yet? 1 x £5 Coronation Crown 2 x £2 London Underground 2 x £1 Floral coins (30th anniversary of the £1 in 2013) 1 x 50p with the previously unused Christopher Ironside design (Prince Philip's favourite we are told!) There is one missing, the Benjamin Britten 50p which we are holding until the end of 2013 nearer the date of Britten's birth. You can view them all on our website of course! The first coins to enter circulation will be the London Underground £2 coins which will be released in limited numbers in selected locations in January 2013. Good luck finding one :D http://www.royalmint.com/Edited by James Royal Mint 12/14/2012 05:16 am

Yeah for The Royal Mint taking the time and effort to keep us updated. Now if only the U. S. mint could do that.

In the link for The Royal Mint my eyes were immediately drawn to the "long cross" 1925 shilling, for I had not seen this design. I had to investigate. Found out the series of patterns was done by Eric Gill, but all I could see on the net was the reverse of 3d and 1s. If anyone knows or finds the source for images of the complete series, including the obverse, please share!

James - I like this! And holy crap, I love that Ironside 50p design, I thought Id have to try and buy a sketchy fantasy fake from somewhere, so its good the mint is making them! I'm going to find me a few of those.
Do you know when they will be released to circulation, and where?
Very good designs for 2013 but I cant help but wonder - how are the London Underground £2s centred? It seems to be a very easy design to get slightly rotated (and that could be quite obvious).

The Royal Mint is very active on Facebook. Looks like the Benjamin Britten coin will not be included in the annual proof or uncirculated sets, if the release date is going to be so late in the year. Ken

You're right Ken, the Benjamin Britten will be released later in the year and is not in the sets.

Thanks :D Nice Design... It's a bit out of my YN price range... Although The Royal Mint ships quickly! Unlike the Canadian Mint.... (3 months for a coin after it said shipping in a week isn't good!)

Hi James, looking forward to the new coins, £1 coins look very nice. But "selected locations" - that's mean!! Any clues as to whether they will be distributed around the UK or predominantly in the South East? Sadly, there seems to be a North/South bias in most things, and as an adoptive Northerner......... We have still only got ONE Edinburgh £1 coin and that was found by a friend who owns a restaurant in Manchester!

A wee question for James Royal Mint, my daughter is getting Married in June this year and she is making up a "Favours bag" for every female guest, and she wants to include a shiny new 2013 penny coin, I have tried banks, post offices, building Societies..........does anyone still do the Tubes of Pennys or even the bags of pennys, I would hate to have to buy 150 year sets to rip open as I need about 150 of them, would The Royal Mint sell the pennys to me, if so who should I contact.

The British Royal Mint site indicates that the 5-pound coin is bimetallic instead of copper-nickel. This error should be corrected. As a longtime (42 years) collector of British decimal coinage, the 2013 15-coin set is very impressive!

Wondering if James from The Royal Mint might see this. Are you aware there is a fair bit of grumbling about the quality of the 2013 Silver Britannias James? Lot of tales of scuff marks and the coin generally being of a generally lesser standard. I realise these are bullion coins but one of the big selling points of buying a Britannia was how classy it looked. .999 and unlimited mintage may mean 1997-2012 may well shoot up in value in the future.

Hi everyone, lots of questions...great :D Feel free to contact me though The Royal Mint blog if you want to get a direct response as though I try to check the forum regularly this is an indirect channel! http://blog.royalmint.com/contact-us/New £1 coins will be released nationwide. Underground £2 coin will be available from London Transport ticket machines from late January! You're the first to hear that news I believe :D I will check the website and get that fixed today. Thanks for the kind words about the collection. Prices inevitably have to rise as collecting is not quite the mass market it once was. As a result we have been trying to justify the premium position we now occupy by creating higher quality collections...sounds like we may be headed in the right direction! I am aware that we have had some issues with the new coins and they're being looked into. Those are strictly intended for the bullion market though and will complement the proof Britannia range which will be announced soon! Thanks all, James
