Quote: Biggest key date. Lowest mintage for all silver 1$ coins I don't believe this coin is considered as part of the Commemorative Canadian Silver Dollar series.. at least I hope it isn't, or else I'll need one to complete my Commemorative Silver Dollar collection!

I consider this coin to be part of the loon dollar series, not the silver dollar series. The reason, diameter of the coin.

"Hype. Hype hype. Ummm hype.
Oh, BTW, I have some to sell."
We get it that the sellers think we all should be lusting. But, there are lots of low mintage NCLT that get no love. This one is over-hyped and over-priced.
Remember the key point: They only made 849 because only 849 of the original offering sold. It was a money loser for the mint.

This one is not part of the traditional 36mm commemorative silver dollar series.

The only collection this coin fits in to is a full set of loonies. There might be only 849 of them but there are less then 49 people in the whole world that can have a full set of loons. So the way I have it figured there are 800 to many of them. In addition, besides myself only 38 other people can ever complete his type of collection so they are not really worth much. LOL

Quote: There might be only 849 of them but there are less then 49 people in the whole world that can have a full set of loons. Am I missing something here? Why 49? Also there are many ways to look at collections. Of course if you look at it from today's point of view they may not be worth much but how about someone collecting: wedding sets? or wedding and baby sets? or just all sets with silver loons? or proof sets. Hey if people are willing to pay prices for a set where the coin is wrongly inserted in the plastic then I am sure this is worth much more than that. The more rare the coin the more pricier it will get as time goes by IMHO.

The reason I say 49 is because there are only 49 2009 Edmonton Oilers loons from the mini puck sets if you want to have a set of loons you will need one of them. I'm not sure if the numbers are accurate I tried to find out but it seems no one is interested. So I figure there are less then 49 people that want a set of loons. For myself when I started collecting coins I found out it would be very expensive if not impossible to have a full set of any coin. But I love the loon so I set out to get one of each type made, every year, material, PL, proof, circulation and specimen and test. done by the way :-) I just find it weird that so few other people are interested in the Edmonton loon yet they will spend a grand or more for this wedding set.

Well, I guess I'm one of the 49ers then.... Don't have the complete loonie set yet but I'm getting close. I don't have all the regular specimen ones yet and may still be missing a couple of the regular proofs. Just need to find the time to track them down.

I have all the loons as well... some purchases you just have to bite the bullet and cough up the money, even though you know it is not worth the money (like the Montreal Canadians stamp and coin set, to get the gold-plated and painted Montreal dollar)...

I actually thought that set was very well done. I pulled the loons out and threw the beautiful leather bound book with the gold plated stamps in the closet. lol Maybe one day I will find a use for it.
