A friend of mine bought it. He said he got a good deal at 499.00. Vow going from 1900 down. I am glad to see it trending down.

I was told by local post offices that after a certain time of discount unsold coins are returned eventually to rcm

I have heard many times before that mint might get things back and melt them.

Lets think about it for a moment. There are still specimen sets from three years back floating around at CP. Even the silver sets from last year are floating around and I am betting that they will for a few more years. Then there are the oodles of 2009 Montreal Canadiens Sets at CP (These even have gold plated stuff in it)

Although silver can be melted. It takes time and energy to cull these things back and send them for melting. That all costs money. If I were the mint I would try to sell them at my cost before I decide to go through the additional expense of getting them back and melting them. It just does not make business sense to do it otherwise.

That's why you have liquidators. I am willing to bet that when the mint was selling these coins for $99/set their cost of making was perhaps about $30 or so. And for the CD sets I am willing to bet that their cost was about $3 or so. Now if they were to take them back they would not be getting that much in silver value back. Would it not be better for them to sell it at $30 rather than melt it.

I think that is precisely what happened and some of the big dealers bought them at the cost of silver.

There are tons of them sitting around in someones warehouse slowly leaking into the market.

I have approached reputable dealers for these sets and they have given me a song and dance about how these things do not exist. Six months later I see them putting it up on ebay for exhorbitant prices.

Yes it is strange. Send me your e-mail, address and phone number and I can get you the details. We can discuss this off-line.

I believe, the person could offer 900+ (kind of show that he serious), but in the message to the seller propose different amount, let's say off line for example.

I have lots to learn here but I looked at the completed listings and nowhere does it show 1675. Do you have some special access that I do not have?

Do you mind posting a link where you see the sale at 1675.

Thanks for helping out.

you cannot see anymore for how much it sold I think if the offer was accepted after the new ebay update. Might be wrong, but all I see is a crossed price :/
