As for the gold ones, earlier today they had a 2011 1oz gold one but now I don't see any left but one 1/25oz gold 2012 one. I'd add it to the shopping cart but I already have one. Very nice little coin in an direct fit capsule, not one with the foam ring.

Yes, I thankfully got my 2012 Somalia elephant from them and 2011 a couple months ago when I discovered these, and actually it was the Rwanda Wildlife series that lead me to them.
I recently ordered the 2013's from Modern Coinmart. I found out until I did research that they came in gold! Grrrrr I wanted a 1 oz one so badly... but iam try for a 2013...
Its going to be a fun hunt,, and best of all, no Elephants will be hurt lol :D

One vendor at the coin show I went to this morning was offering the 2013 silver bullion elephants for $42. Those elephants weren't exactly stampeding off of his table. They were pretty solidly bedded down for the duration and nobody was bothering them.

yea that doesn't surprise me. Yet on ebay, whereas APMEX had knocked down the price on the 2011 Elephants say for a roll around 670ish, now they are going for 800+ on ebay. These coins command a premium for a reason. However, if anyone needs to liquidate in a hurry, with these coins, one wont have much success. I LOVE these coins, so beautiful and gotta love the elephant :D

So just an update here on the Somalia Elephants-
I earlier this month bought 2 silver proof sets. In case there's some wondering whats the the COA, here's what I have on both of them-
I have a 2010 and 2012 set. Both have the signature of "Dr Abdullahi Ahmed Addou". Both list him as Governor Central Bank. IF you recall, tho, he was the CBG in the late 60's.
One other item I forgot to add that is on the COA and here I am including it word for word "This is to certify that this set of four silver coins of the Somali Republic is a legal tender original coin set, struck in accordance with legislation and passed by Parliament."
I have been doing some digging around here looking for 2013 issue sets and it appears this series has concluded as it has been offered, with a 2 oz, 1 oz, 1/2 oz and 1/4 oz silver proof coins.
Instead it appears a new 3 pc set has been released, with two BU 1 oz silver coins and 1 1/25 oz proof gold coin. A COA is included in a nice wooden presentation box.
As I get more details on this set I will relay the info for any interested in this series of Somalia Elephant coins.
My quest and goal is to collect all of them, even if it takes me forever and costs and comes with a premium. :D

2013 has a gorgeous design and finish, but all my LCS had (8?) showed the same hit near the elephant's ear. Looked like a coin dropped edge first onto the previous coin. From a novelty or for the novice gift, no big deal. But as a collector, it's disappointing.

I've got 6 beautiful 2013 elephants. Modern Coin Mart has the best prices I've seen on them.

For all you guys that love the elephants, I would like to introduce you to the 1944 Belgian Congo silver 50 Francs. I've been buying these as they were a single year issue. I love them. http://www.ebay.com/itm/1944-Belgia...em3f225a703b Here's the link for one on ebay. They are pricey, but with patience you can snag some for allot cheaper.

yea ima have to check my 2013 Somalia, I didnt notice anything like that... they are such great coins tho, just a beautiful design. I really LOVE the sets too, I have a 2012 and 2010 frac set and the 2 oz coin is just so so so beautiful. I noticed a dealer on ebay has a 2013 set and I was mulling on getting that. And yea, I got mine singles from modern coin mart and I did get some in the past from APMEX, who said they wouldnt carry them anymore but I believe I noticed they went back to offering them! what I really would like is a gold somalian elephant coin, now that would be GREAT!!

UPDATE- WELL WELL- So I was on APMEX's site today. Guess what I found. YUP! An expanded selection of Somalian elephant products, including new product for 2013 such as gold Somalian elephant coins, a silver kilo coin, colored versions etc. And last time I talked with APMEX they said they would no longer carry them because they weren't legal tender . guess market demand made them change their mind in a hurry lol Now if you excuse me, I am off to add to my elephant collection :D

I got some elephants last year. Haven't got anything this year so far. AMPEX looks like a good option though.

So I wanted to update this again- As you all know, I love these big guys, the Somalia elephant coins. Did you all notice the kilo coin, sold out! Also, the 1 oz gold 2013 Somalian sold out. And, the colored and gilded coins also sold out. APMEX clearly has a market for these and thats why they added them and they sold those quickly. Clearly, there's demand for these beautiful coins and I think they are going to steal the thunder in the future from other silver coins, with their beauty and mystique. I encourage you ALL to start collecting or adding these beauties to your collection.

I got myself a 1oz silver Somalian. It's really only because of the design. I love elephants.
