I no longer own my first ancient and my last has been posted in the last smackdown the Numerian with the hole at the bottom. So it looks like I'm just going to sit out this smackdown.

Okay, I haven't got any ancients yet, but I do have some non-moderns (Russian wire money of Ivan IV... well, not only him, of course, but mainly him), and if I'm lucky I probably could buy something by Friday and participate (I've long wanted to buy an ancient, but couldn't think of a worthy reason to, and until recently couldn't find any offered for under $20 either). As such, I have several questions:
1) If I somehow succeed, would I be eligible for the 2013 bonus? I did collect well before 2013... just not ancients (and IIRC I bought my first non-modern back in 2010). 2) What would be my first coin, and what my last? I didn't buy any ancients in 2012 (duh), but I did buy an Ivan IV coin as late as December 2012, and as early as October 2010 (see question 1). 3) And finally, a slightly weird one... would the 12pm when this smackdown ends be starting midnight, noon, or ending midnight? (I.e., is it 5am or 5pm GMT, and if 5am then Friday or Saturday?)

January - You would definitely be in line for the 10 point bonus! If you buy a coin it would be both your first and last - and a new collector would come in so I dont think anyone could object to that!
Ivan was around the 1560s so I doubt many would count it as ancient, I'm afraid. Enter it anyway - this is about showing others our coins - showing off - not trying to win, really.

It was mentioned you don't need the coin in hand to submit it ^^
Ivan IV would be considered by most to be modern, so if you go and buy 2 coins then you can enter one as your 1st and one as your last ^^ if not a single coin would qualify butt both first and last pressumably ^^ You would also be eligable for the bonus pressumably.

I would personally consider anything before the Milled coinage of Elizabeth I to be " ancient ." The coins were made in cery much the same way for the 2000 years prior up until that point.... Just saying, I would enter the wire money... I want to see it.

My first ancient:- A toned silver denarius of Severus Alexander. My last purchase of 2012:- A heavily double struck Ephesus denarius of Vespasian. I don't have it in hand yet and it was bought on December 31st. I bought it because if is a scarcer type and a really heavy, large offset, double strike on both sides. Martin
