I read the glossary definition of Cud and you are correct. I'm using an iPad and still haven't figured out how to cut and paste. Basically, It states a Cud is larger die break covering a surface area.

They are die chips, Cuds only happen at the rim or Retained Cud which still involves the rim of the coin

Such an error on an australian coin would be called a Cud by any collector here. Its interesting there is the differences in terminology between countries.

In my first post on this thread I said that a Cud involves the rim. Then I read the glossary on this forum and this was the definition of a Cud (I had erased part of my original post after reading the glossary):

Cud
An area of a coin struck by a die that has a complete break across part of its surface. A Cud may be either a Retained Cud, where the faulty piece of the die is still in place, or a full Cud, where the piece of the die has fallen away. Retained Cuds usually have dentil detail IF on the edge, while full Cuds do not.

Not to be argumentative or split hairs but it did not say it involves the rim exclusively.

Maybe I can get clarification. Thanks.
