It is post-strike damage and does not show damage to the date because the date is protected by the field around it.

GREAT observation denco. Now that it has been pointed out, I'm leaning towards Rolling Machine Damage. But seriously, what are the odds that the PMD is substantial enough to indent the coin, but not enough pressure to disturb the date? Definitely looks like date is over the line, not the other way around.

A counting machine would have cut through the date too.

Why would it cut through the date if the date is incuse?

This latest closeup photo has me convinced that it is indeed PMD. Look closely at the right side of the "1". See where metal is pushed into the recessed 1. It appears whatever it was was moving in a clockwise direction. If it was pre strike the area that is pushed into the area of the 1 would have been obliterated by the die and appear normal.

I guess my point was that I'll hang onto it regardless of the fact that I'm 99.9% sure it's PMD. Did not mean for my affinity for this coin to ruffle your feathers there. <<<Edited by Tights24 to remove another "not so friendly" comment. Just because the poster above used the word doesn't make it ok for you to.>>>

It is you keep posting pics like you want someone to tell you something different, but then make a statement that you will never be convinced. If you are convinced, what does anyone else's opinion mean? You did not ruffle my feathers. I gave you my honest opinion of the coin. I guess I would rather spend my time on people that truly want opinions.

Let's just agree to disagree. The OP was honest with his opinion as you were for yours. (ps I believe it is PMD)

Seriously ? If you don't want to to talk about it then stay out of the thread or learn some manners. No one is forcing you to hijack a members thread with snide remarks.
If you don't want to talk about it then butt out.
<<<I would like to talk about it, so I'll butt in. I don't think YOU get to choose who posts and who doesn't. I didn't see a hijack in here. If you're referring to jkol's post, it seems like he is trying to add some levity since you kids chose not to play nice. Tights24>>>
