Hello: I have just gotten into ancient coins to look for something else other than the Canadian that I deal in. So, I bought a lot of Crusty Romans to start with. After a few days, they are coming along. There are three that are not too bad to start with. I was wondering about this one in particular so far... it is very slim, (less than a mm) and approx 20mm in diameter. Any ideas?

I would probably be the last person anyne would turn to regarding advice on ancients but your coin appears to be too modern to be roman.

Steve - probably worth more than an old roman too. My first batch of romans also had a medieval token in it!

Looks like a Medieval Jeton (counting coin, no monetary value, more like a token that banks used to keep accounts). I can't make out the legends though. Nice find, jetons are a fun area.

Thanks, everyone for all the help. Now what is a French Jeton doing in a lot of ancient Roman coins? Hmm..

It looks like a Henry III silver penny to me or at least an English medieval coin...

Hi, DavidUK: I've confirmed that it is indeed a Hans Krauwinckel Nuremburg Jeton. I have found several resources and it matches up nicely.

Ahh I guess coins of that time are stylistically similar, the font around the edge looks much like the old English coins...maybe I need to brush up on my other European coinage ^^
