That same design is one several other coins and yet seldom does anyone make that same fuss about those.
Huh?

To begin with it was the largest silver coin ever produced since the civil war.
The civil war was began in 1861 and ended in 1865, the Liberty Seated dollar was struck from 1840 to 1873 and was the largest silver coin struck for eight years after the civil war ended.

Or two or three!

What makes the Morgan dollar so popular is that it is one of very few coins that was made in such quantity that an abundance was stockpiled by the government until the early 1970's. So many of them were stored in unopened mint sealed bags that they are very affordable in mint state to all levels of collectors. And, she's not bad looking either.

I really like the toning on the 1878-S even though the ANACS holder is truly ugly. The 1885-O has luster to spare and for a white coin it has great eye appeal. Very good price for the three too.

There is no finer coin in the world to collect, my friend. Just think of the history behind the minted years.

Been looking at them and at civil war tokens. I can definitely see what you mean about them.

And amida17, I can only say this to you -

I feel better now, because I'm hugging my Morgan's !
