If I understand my book right it is either 40 or 80% silver. The proof should be 80% and the non proof should be 40% silver.

Proofs were made CuNi and Ag clad 40%. No 80% U.S. Halves have been made.

It's kinda hard to tell from the photos.. Is the edge silver or does it has the copper stripe? Because if it has the s mint mark and a copper stripe then it's the san Francisco proof. If its a 40% silver then it could be either and I'd want to see better pics before giving a definite yea or nay... Lol.

It does look like its a proof, but knowing if it has the copper line will help determin if its clad or silver.

Just do the tissue test or weigh it.
tissue test: place a clad half and the proof half under one sheet of (two-ply) tissue.
The clad half will be dark in color, a silver half will be light or whitish.

Looks proof to me.

The only non proof 1976 S was the 40% silver ones.
