The 1914-d is going to be in demand in any grade at any time. This would be my choice, even though I don't have a 1931-s yet either.

I have both, though both are problem coins. The 14D is lower grade though, so that is the one I would be replacing first. To answer the original question, both have appeal as key coins so get whichever one you can pull in the best condition for the 250 you mentioned. Both are needed to finish the set, so get the best you can of either.

I would also get the 14-D, just because of how hard it is to find.

Thank you all again for taking your time to reply.....WOW....Looks like the 14d that I found is going to get some action....It's F-15 in an old green PCGS slab...Now to work on the seller!

The 09-s and the 14-d would be the one's I'd be looking for and it sounds like you have a good line on a 14-d.
The 31-s can be found more readily at higher grades with plenty of XF coins at around $100.

I paid $170 for an MS63 31S at a coin dealer about 6 months ago and $200 for a G4 14D at a coin show about a year ago. Given the two, I was more excited about the 14D since, as stated, it was the harder of the two to find. I only had three holes in my album when I got the 14D (the 31S and the 09S VDB, though I got the S VDB today and FINALLY completed that set) and used the rarity of the 14D to determine which to focus on at the time. Any way you go though should be a good deal since it sounds like you'll be happy with the purchase.
