I'm starting to think that that guy in Alberta has a huge crate of these books and is slowly selling them off and planning his fancy retirement.

I'm too old for this....

Maybe I'll just give them to a church bazaar or a hospital.
I'm sure that the patients could always flip through them..........and check their pocket change....if they had pockets...

I gave my whole set of Zoell's to a younger collector where they will do some more good than laying here gathering dust or thumbing through to get a Zoell number.

Those that sold above were in poor and in a badly stained condition.

He must have found a rare variety while looking through his book...

So what is it that's happening to the price of these Zoell books? I have a couple myself, and wouldn't mind filling out my set but holy cow these things are going through the roof! I thought that they were only supposed to be in the $50 - $60 range unless in sweet mint shape. I sure can't afford to buy the ones I need at those kinds of prices.

I like them for the information contained within them; that's their value to me, so even lesser grades would be okay if the book was complete. But $100+ for poor grades, wow, that's a lotta dough.

Being a coin collector probably means that we are "very fussy".

I know that when I used to look at them way back when,...I would only open the book up a bit so as not to flex the backing.

My variety books look unopened today and basically were never used except for one passing view...and then stuffed in a box and stashed away...I mean there were only so many dates to check in those books and naturally I didn't have that many dates.

These books don't do well with handling and some were probably very cheaply made.

Who would have thought that "some day" these $2 books would still be relevant and so expensive today..?

DEVLEC you have made it really tough for me to get any of these booklets. 1345 have read your topic so far.
Against all odds I have managed to get 2 since you posted this topic & I don't pay 100 bucks plus for them.

I'm sorry...I'm so sorry....

How can I correct these errors in my past...?

You know that because I brought these books up now.....I can never sell them...

What else will I have left to do but empty out all of my penny jars and check for varieties .?...

....that is,.. while I can still see varieties...

@ DEVLEC,

To answer to your question, I beleive that the Zoell's books are still relevant, in 2013, for errors and varieties : the photos, descriptions are up to date, and prices are a guide for the rarity.

@ pennysaver,

In your post, 03/02/2013, you say : " I hadn't realized that the number of errors collectors was so small as an error collector myself... "
In my opinion, if this was true in 2003, this is not true in 2013.

As examples, we have now the following statistics :

1- For coincommunity, in the forum " Canadian Variety and Error Coins ", we can see 2440 topics and 19,883 posts.

1- For numicanada. in the forum " Errors and Varieties ", we can see 4707 topics and 39788 posts.

This is a clear indication that the interest for errors and varieties is growing

I think too that it is important for an errors collector to have many books to have much more informations as possible : Zoell, Charlton and others if possible.

I refer you to: http://www.coinsandcanada.com/shop.php

You could see there a book that is very useful for my searchs in the field of errors and varieties.
