I came across this penny going through rolls. To me it does not look like lathe marks. The rim is fine and the reverse looks good. Any input is greatly appreciated. ty

That is an amazingly cool damaged coin.

It did not leave the USA mint this way ... but it is so interesting that I would keep it.

I could make up some theories as to how this happened ... however suffice to say that your coin is PMD ... but a very fun and interesting example.

This penny looks remarkably similar to one I used as a spacer when painting a bicycle rear wheel nut and lock washer when I was 15 yrs old. Had to keep it off the table when spraying it, I remember that bike because it had a rear wheel disc brake.
