Sometimes I get too caught up with one of my 'children' and neglect the others. Five arrived and 2 of them are having a bath right now. I am deciding whether to leave this little 'stinker' unwashed.

Very nice low grade coin. I don't have this emperor yet. Caesar coins might be a bit more scarce than the Augustus coins, I think.

Cool design - I wonder what the trophy represents? Did Commodus do any invasions?

This sestertius is 'dated' to AD175-76. As Commodus was born in 161 we can assume we are looking at a fourteen year old. David Sear actually list 4 seperate periods to Commodus - AD166-76 as Caesar (his twin brother Antoninus died around this time)176-77 as Imperator Caesar, 177-180 Joint Rule with Marcus and 180-192 as sole Emperor. Its not a very high grade coin but I think it has eye appeal. Enough appeal that while not a VF I would give it a better than F grade. Using the Byzantines as an example (I own but a few) I will take an appealing looking worn bronze over a higher graded version if I think the 'nice detail' doesn't give the piece any extra eye appeal. Its alot like art ..... somethings work for some people ..... and others just don't. The reason I have so few Byzantines is it can be difficult for me to find one that I find 'handsome' !
