The price of coins has doubled since mc started yet threshold to get in has not that's part of the problem. It has become too popular and with that it created all these problems there is not any easy fix when dealing with such limited numbers of coins you can't just raise mintages because that will make a whole new set of problems.

While I could support raising it some from its current level, raising it to $5,000 would mostly only benefit those who buy in quantity for resale purposes. The MC should be of benefit to collectors who purchase more than the average, not just resellers.

I think the gold hoard contributed to a lot of new MC members however I am guessing that there are a lot of those buyers who aren't typical NCLT purchasers and they will drop off the MC membership roll.

It would be interesting to see a chart of MC member $ purchases to get an idea of the median level - my guess is that it is substantially less than $5,000 for collectors.

As a MC member and collector, why would I want to see it rise to a level that just benefits the person that buys as much as they can so they can resell it to me on ebay at a higher price?

So knocking out the collectors by raising the bar that high isn't the right way either. That's just knocking out the flippers competition so they can easily get their hoard of coins without fighting for it.

If they don't have anymore "hoards" then I think around this time next year you will see a drop in MC members , I for one may not be able to get over the 1000 dollar mark in the next 11 months, or maybe I will we shall see. They might be shooting them selves in the foot if they raised it even just to $2000.

5k is a red herring.

The butterfly sold out so quickly at least partly because the RCM has chosen a new primary distributor called Canada Post. And CP is getting large allocations of low mintage coins AND pre-selling them before MC even know they exist. The RCM simply didn't have anywhere close to 10k of them to sell to us.

This has also created an issue with information dissemination because CP employees are leaking new release weeks in advance. IMO, the only way to combat that is for the RCM to publicly announce new issues whenever they inform CP and allow CP to create catalogues.

To your point Adorus, only MC who are VIP (i.e were contacted the day before the MC release) or people who browse coin forums even knew to order the butterfly. Even many of us who knew the coin was coming out, didn't know what time the coin would be on-line for order. Really, who has the time to refresh the mint site all day for fear of missing a buying opportunity? (I mean besides many of us )

The regular MC alert notification came out after the sell out and even though there were a few coins made available at that time, telling your best customers about a new product that is already sold out is a slap in the face.

Back off. Any time I pipe up you freak out....you don't know anything about me so keep your "duh" comments to yourself!
It's not just me talking about flippers so go find a flipper friendly forum or learn to deal with the comments about flippers.
I've never attacked you personally so show the same respect!

I hope the mint doesn't raise their limit for MC. It is true raising the limit from $1,000 to over $1,000 will knock out lots of current MC members.

I doubt they will raise the limit to much backlash from their customers

Actually no I'm not negative towards it all the time. You obviously don't pay a lot of attention to all the posts. This is a "forum". I can comment on my thoughts about flipping. I'm not shallow and immature to the point of needing to attack people directly over it.
