1908 Barber Halves - Mint Mark V. Condition

raybutler Valued Member United States 96 Posts	Posted 03/30/2013 01:13 am I have these two Barber halves a 1908-S & 1908-D, the S mark is a lower mintage and lists for a third more in same condition. But, obviously the D mark has much better lines and rims especially the reverse. My question is which is more valuable? Thanks in advance to all who can help. Report this Post to the Staff

Ag. metals the 1908-S half should not bring more than $ 10.25 (melt value) since the condition is AG-3. The 1908-D, on the other hand, makes a higher G-4 grade whose 'retail' value would be $ 17.00 per the price chart from NumisMedia as of 3/30/13. However, as of 3/30/13 I personally would not pay more than $ 7.50 and $ 12.00 wholesale for the 1908-S and 1908-D respectively. Just my preference, mdpmedia Report this Post to the Staff
D0ubl3Eagle Pillar of the Community United States 5854 Posts	Posted 03/30/2013 2:02 pm The 1908-D looks like a G-6 and the 1908-S probably is a AG-3. I think the 1908-S would probably sell for a little less than the 1908-D because of condition. Report this Post to the Staff

It was one of the first pieces that I acquired and I didn't understand grading and how it affects value as well as I do now. Report this Post to the Staff
