@aswitzer - I used my visa debit which I though I could use...guess I could not. So I just used the mastercard.

@ aswitzer, checked with CCC; butterfly coin not expected to come in until May 21st! That's a long time to hold our credit card payments!....

@ Tristen, I'm starting to give up on the venetian butterfly, so I broke down and ordered the butterfly quarter! At least I get the design, in case I don't get the silver one!

@allspice - Why wouldn't you get one?

@ Tristen, well, I did order in 2 places and both are postponed until May. I'm losing patience seeing many others already got theirs. Starting to doubt I'll get one, as there is no indication of a confirmed order (just remarks like "we don't know yet," "might come in May," etc.

@allspice - I would not worry if you ordered from a well known place but if you didn't it could be a possibility. I don't know why they would over sell and item though.

Thanks for the reassurance, Tristen! Should all be ok, just a matter of time, I suppose.
Hard to be patient though! Did you get receive your butterfly yet? Or confirmation of your order?

I'd be more concerned with the reports that some of these coins are arriving damaged. It seems they are somewhat fragile and given that they are sold out, I suspect getting a replaced if yours is broken is highly unlikely. Plenty of us waited several months for the glass bee last year but as far as I know, they all arrived in tact. Not sure that will always be the case with the butterflies.

That sucks CC-Ottawa! If they are fragile, they will need to be packaged carefully. The Mint & Canada Post are usually pretty good with packaging....
What happens to the damaged coins? Do they get melted or can they be repaired?

I've been told by a customer rep at the RCM that a big part of the new delay in shipping the butterfly coin is because of the large number of coins with broken wings they are experiencing.

So far, it seems the damaged coins seem to have come from CP.
Can they be repaired? Unlikely. I don`t know if Giuliano Donaggio created a few extra butterflies or not but if he did (or does) then I suppose replacement of the bug is possible.
I would also suspect that if they were purchased directly from the mint, the chances of getting a replacement would be better than if you got one from a dealer (even CP). It remains to be seen what happens regarding refunds or replacements.

i second CC-Ottawa. Getting a replacement or refund from RCM is a simple matter. I don't know if it'll be the same with CP or other online dealers. If the dealer's local then it's another story, but then again if it's a local buy then the coins can be inspected before purchase.

@commems - That is an understandable prediction since the last two did not have anything sticking out which is easy to break. If it does break due to RCM I sure how they will melt that one and make another one.

@allspice... May!? Ah crap... well, guess I will just try to forget about it then. No point checking the status everyday if it isn't coming for a while.

Not to mention the 4 wings are glued on the body individually. This is a very fragile coin as any major drops from a substantial height will surely break a wing or 2.
