It's an older embossed holder,from the era of more conservative grading by ICCS.Good chance if resubmitted it would come back MS64.

You are correct DBM it is a older holder. I sent it to ICCS sometime in the 1990's when they were still a newer grading company. I also have heard that there grading was more conservative back then. Recently I have been putting together a bunch of coins to send in to ICCS and I think I may include this one. It is a very nice coin and maybe this time they may give it a MS64. Thanks for your advice. |

I think the older holders, with the embossed certificate, are more desirable and easier to sell... why bother resubmit it? Dealers and collectors alike know that older holders are more conservatively graded (accurately graded in my opinion) and that newer coins have been subject to grading creep... if it is a slider, and barely makes MS-64 grade, will it matter? Examine the coin in hand and ask yourself... is it a MS-63 or MS-64? The answer to that question should help you decide if it is a candidate for resubmission...

I agree. The price level is such that it is in the domain of the more sophisticated collector. One that would appreciate a solid MS-63 than a doubted MS-64.
Not to mention how playing the crack-out game makes the population numbers meaningless. Although, that probably can swing back at ICCS for not using a solid slab.
If ICCS had always had a slab, but the same loosening grading, would people be cracking?

Even if ICCS had a hard slab, people would still be playing the crack out game.
Look at PCGS.
US dealers and collectors love to crack out and resubmit their coins.
