I'm taking bets as to whether this is fake, original, or restrike. Will post better pics when it arrives.

Though not a recent strike, this is a restrike. Here is a later restrike from the Milan mint circa 1818-1828.

Thanks for the link, Ron, but I already have that bookmarked. I have my opinions about this coin, but I bought it anyways.

Re-strike. Struck by the British sometime between 1936-61 in one of their mints (could be in the UK or India). The brooch with 9 pearls, the S.F. initials with the two dots on the obv, the single dot before the saltire on the rev, and the 1-2-1 tail feathers are the indicators. I have two the same as this.

Here's one of them:

Spoilsport.

I wish someone would come up with a more accessible database than the site Ron linked above.

I agree. For a coin that has supposedly had more than a billion minted the web resources are surprisingly slim.

Hard to say. I have a restrike one of these, and the condition is uncirculated.

It's surprising that this would be a restrike in such circulated condition.

Actually it's not surprising at all. These re-strikes have been made almost since the year they were first minted. Some of them are well over 200 years old. MT Thalers were still a common form of currency exchange up until the 1970's in some countries in the middle east. Apparently they are STILL accepted as a form of payment in some markets.
