When/Why Did They Remove The Name Of The Federal Banks?

barryg Pillar of the Community United States 5862 Posts	Posted 04/05/2013 09:29 am I guess I haven't really paid much attention to the new format bills being printed lately, but when and why did they stop including the name of the specific Federal Reserve Bank in the left-hand seal? I see it's still on the $1 bill, but not on the $5, $10 or $20. For the 12 district banks they just use the first 12 letters with 1-12, I think it is a little redundant since they both indicate the same thing but here is the list: A1 - Boston B2 - New York C3 - Philadelphia D4 - Cleveland E5 - Richmond F6 - Atlanta G7 - Chicago H8 - St Louis I9 - Minneapolis J10 - Kansas City K11 - Dallas L12 - San Francisco Report this Post to the Staff
Broken-Coin Pillar of the Community United States 1812 Posts	Posted 04/05/2013 12:25 pm If memory serves, I remember reading a Coin World article back then that mentioned the BEP had done this as part of the new currency design for the $5.00 to $100.00 denominations with no changes to the One and Two Dollar FRN's. The changes included a common Federal Reserve Seal replacing the Branch Seal and placing the 12 individual Federal Reserve Banks letters (A-Boston [#1] to L-San Francisco [#12]) in the serial number prefix, and both the Bank Branch Letter & Number below the upper left serial number. I'm sure this is correct, then again !?!?!?
