I'm sure the Mint would love for everyone to be happy with their service. I'll bet the Venetian Glass Butterfly issue simple overwhelmed them. The demand for this coin was amazing. How do you satisfy everyone?

BrandonMb You are certainly understanding, and you make a good point about them probably being overwhelmed by the demand. I do, however, think they should maybe have expected it, based on the popularity of the preceding coins in the series and August or September delivery just seems too slow.

@BrandonMb & BrandonMb - I agree with Ravenz. It would not take a genius to realize that this coin would sell out within the MC release. And I do not see how popularity could take an effect in how long it takes the coin to be produce. It comes down to the Mint just not being ready for the coins. I believe the reason for this delay is because the Mint does not have all the glass butterfly's. Could have been a delay on the side of where the butterfly's are made.

Thank you for the welcome Ravenzcoin.

I do agree that they should have been better prepared for the demand for Glass Butterfly coin. I wish they would communicate the reason for the shipping delay.

But with a Mint order I believe that it is just a delay. I have received every coin that I have ordered from the Mint. In the past year I have made 3 different orders with dealers that were confirmed then subsequently cancelled. One of those order was with Canada Post. I have never had that problem with the Mint.

What blows my mind is that even with these unbelievably long wait times to receive product, the RCM is still charging exorbitant prices for their coins, both clad and silver. $30 for a clad quarter, and $70, $90 or sometimes $100/ounce for silver? Are we nuts? Usually a company that has horrible service has to compensate with great prices, to lessen the sting a little bit, but that doesn't seem to apply to the RCM. And then there's the aftermarket price gouging that simply dwarfs the mints prices. I guess these coins appeal to the non-collector as well as the collector, maybe. I haven't figured it out, maybe someone smarter than me knows the answer.

I do have to admit that I fall prey to it as well. I saw the glass butterfly coin and thought my daughter would love it. She goes nuts for butterflies. Alas, I could not get one from the mint. I just hope she doesn't see them anywhere and forces me to buy one on the secondary market.

I completely agree that they delays are crazy, but did the mint really know the glass butterfly would sell out so fast? Maybe they caught on once they got closer to the MC release, but I am not sure if they knew prior to that. This is why I think that. When I went to one of the main Canada Post outlets in my area (this was a couple days before the general public release on April 2), the lady who orders the coins told me she had trouble trying to order it. She said it was really strange because the last coin in the series, the Glass Bee, sat on her shelf for a couple of months!! I really don't know how the release went for the bee, as I started collecting NCLT after that occurred.

But I think it is interesting that the bee coin sat on her shelf for months but now she had a wait list for the butterfly weeks before it was released :P Seems a lot different just from the view of that one Post Office. I know that is an anecdotal example, but it is interesting!

Perhaps the delays are a deliberate ploy to enhance the perception of rarity and uniqueness.

Skimmer(Dragonfly) pushed back to July:( How can they be so far off (three months plus) in their original estimate of when they can start shipping a coin? Don't they employ analysts/statisticians/other professionals to calculate things like production run times using linear programming and other tools? I thought RCM was run efficiently like a for profit corporation/private sector business (has a CEO, etc.). I expect these kind of ridiculous delays/failures from a sloth-like, inefficient, bloated, government agency like the US Mint, but not from the RCM. I guess I am mistaken in my understanding.

Perhaps the Mint sees that it was a lot of flippers out there for the majority of coins, especially for the butterfly, and with the delays, it catches the sellers in a bad position, having sold something (not in-hand) and trying to tell their buyers to wait till August or later.

It was quite obvious that the Mint did spend time looking for Butterfly coin buyers who had set-up several account buying more than the limit, and canceling those that exceeded the quantity limit.

Well, I've read this before. in fact, you are not buying just silver or gold, you're buying collecting coins, unique and designed silver or gold coins ....... that's why for example the butterfly coin has a price list of $149.95 CAD and in the secondary market at least $250 CAD for just 31.39 g of silver while other coins with the same weight are being sold just in 90$ ... so it's clear you re not paying just for the silver.

There's a restaurant that has a horrible service, the prices are average, not expensive but not cheaper neither but the food is Unbelievable, amazing ....... and what you guess... it is always full ... usually waiting time: 40 min

GW has the Butterfly quietly waiting behind glass display, cheaper than ebay and not pre-order...
But I'll happily wait for my coins, no rush here

But I think the Mint messed up on one of my orders, I'll find out next week if I get a complimentary gift from them...

@Coinsplus - But the Mint does not know who is and who isn't. Why would they say due to flippers, whether you are a flipper or a collector it could be delayed until August. Personally when I put my E-bay listing on a put in the description that their could be delays which is not my responsibility and I have not control. I just hope the buyer red that.

This is one of the other issues. When I moved last summer I changed my address on the Mint site. But, thanks to Canada Post, when I put in my new postal code it auto-corrected to my building name, then address. That means there isn't room for my unit number on the mailing label.

My first order was the Brock 25 cent pack. It sat in the building lobby until I noticed it.

Second was the Tecumseh 25 cent pack. It was returned to the Mint as undeliverable, since I did not see it in the lobby. I called twice to get the problem fixed.

My address was okay on the Mint site until I ordered de Salaberry 25 cents. It then auto-corrected again.

Guess I'll have to keep a close watch on my lobby. Or get a letter carrier who remembers my name.

perhaps with May's less than stellar releases the Mint can play catch up and get all the outstanding coin orders sent out..wouldn't that be nice.
