Initially it appears mis-struck, but, with the amount of Damage on the surfaces, that leads me to believe that it was smashed between a rock and a hard place causing the appearance.

The crimped rim leads me to believe that it is an ex- Encased Cent

Damaged Encased Coin. Looks like it hit the parking lot for a time.
