This is the kind of story in which I keep my collection in slabs.

I am for your loss...hopefully you can recover some of those 96-W's.

Doesn't have to do with coins or monetary value but .......... My brother in law is a huge golfer and huge Tiger Woods fan. He saw Tiger at a casino in Vegas one day and had him sign a twenty dollar bill. He was going to frame it and hang it in his office with all his other golfing memorabilia. Well my sister in law came home from working the night shift, noticed there was no milk in the fridge for breakfast. Thinking she would do something nice, she took the twenty out of his wallet and went down to the local 7/11 to get some milk.

Needless to say when he woke the next morning........... all worked out, at the speed of light he raced to the store and retrieved his prize out of the night deposits pouch.

My Wife Loves Me.

Every day she let me search through her change before it goes into her "Mad Money" fund.

Yeah go to all the businesses in town and ask if they have change for a buck. Ha, tell them you need dimes for the pay phone.

My first coin collection met a tragic fate. I began collecting when I was 9 and when I was 11 my senior citizen partner from a school program gave me her collection, which had been started when she was my age. By the time I was 12 my collection had grown to about $1500 in value, half of it silver.
Then tragedy struck. One of my younger brothers started slowly take parts of it and using it to buy junk food at school. I noticed but couldn't figure out who had been doing it, nor could my parents. This went on for a month until one day it was all gone, everything that was left. A fee weeks later I heard change jingling as me brother changed his sheets. Upon further invesigation, a slit and a hole inside the mattress was discovered. Maybe 5% of my collection remained. Grounding was not enough off a punishment.

You're right ! The sad part is, I have never smoked (all but 4 or 5 cigarettes)all of my life. However I've chosen to surround myself with those who smoke, usually women. Mainly because of what my grandpa told me, "Boy, girls who smoke are easy."

Guess you gotta pay one way or another. I just got hit plus interest.

My mother used to take my grandfather's pre-1965 quarters and buy pizza with them. He had a shoebox full of them which he pulled from change back in the late 60's. She wondered why he would get mad at her for taking them...
I once dropped a Virginia copper and it disappeared, never to be seen again. Rolled off into the proverbial sunset.
My wife once spent $10 low serial # star note I had pulled from circulation on smokes.
My son just the other day found a two dollar bill I had set on the table after getting it from the bank and crumpled it up. He also tore the cover off of one of my law books. Gotta love toddlers.
My collection now lives in two safes, both kept above high water line (another story about that one).
Best, and my condolences on the dimes. I feel your pain.
