I found this coin in Big Valley, Alberta (really small town) the only thing I could find was one person on ebay selling it for a couple bucks
This coin is made for the diamond jubilee of the town
But the thing that amazed me was that when I bought it they Had a small plastic container full of them at the back of the shop
Which I suspect is the entire mintage of this beautiful coin
They also had some wooden nickels but not as grand as this coin

Just thought I might share what I thought of this coin!!

A town I know well, and, unfortunately, best known for the Big Valley Creation Science Museum...

I'll bite my tongue and resist saying anything more about that, because being a geologist and a scientist, my rant would not be pretty, and frankly, a numismatic forum is not the place for it...

But, Alberta does have some pretty cool, older Trade dollars, which are usually large brass or bronze coins, with cool designs. I have a couple from places like Wildwood (1966) and Valleyview (1967), which I love...

Very nice coin. I like the steam locomotive in it...

Is there a location here to post Canadian "collectable Trade dollars"..? If it gets placed in the general tokens section,. I'm thinking that the Canadians might not see it.

Is there a reference book for these Canadian trade coins?

North Bay had the Dionne Quints coin from 1984 in 3 different mintage's of only 60 silver,.. and more pieces struck of a gold plated version,.. and finally a nickel strike celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Quint's birth.

Canadian Municipal Trade Tokens, 5th edition, by Serge Peltier

It is sold out at the publisher, but some coin stores (e.g., B&W Coins in Brampton) still sell copies.

It is merely a catalogue, there are no illustrations in this book. Most cool tokens you have to discover...

Does that trade token catalogue have mintage numbers in it?
