rking007, cool that found that much money! I'd have a hard time convincing my wife though that I would search for coins before, during, or after a movie. Cool finds. Did you find any collectible coins and any silver coins?

Never any silver nor collectible. But I can say that back then I wasn't as into collecting as I am now. I did used to go through thousands of dollars of notes to look for stars or obvious errors. Once upon a long time ago we got a $100 from the 1930's but at the time I was only 18 and there was no way I could have afforded $100 out of my own pocket. I sadly deposited it. It was in great shape too.

No, just straight-up hard spendable cash! The best was the movies geared towards teens on opening weekend. It was like clockwork, the first twenty rows of the theater were littered with the most trash to be sure but also the most money. When all of our sixteen year old employees would come in to clean after a show they always thought I was crazy for going to the dirtiest area of the theater first... they never connected the dots time after time of me pocketing ones and fives and quarters. :)

Nice, RKing, pays to be smart. Yeah I bet I've deposited some good stuff too over the years of not collecting. Ha yeah silvermetal, I get funny looks when looking under vending machines. I just pretend I dropped my coins though.

A $5 bill on the ground today, sitting in plain sight. I bought a pop and the remaining $4 is going towards another full hole in my silver quarter album.

nalaberong. thats not a bad idea considering silver spot price is so low now. Once inflation hits the economy silver will go up I think.

Silvermetal, do you put a coin in the place of the coin you take at the tip jar?

My wife always makes fun of me when I constantly look in these places listed above for coins... that was until I cashed in the jar of only "found" money and it totaled over $100! She had to eat a slice of humble pie when I elected to take her to dinner and a movie with the money she made fun of me collecting! ;)

As a kid, it wasn't uncommon to find a few coins in payphone slots.

My dad leaves his change up there. Only pennies, dimes, and nickels.

Anyway, today I got a 1939 Jefferson nickel in change

A dime on top of a dusty vending machine (note: most vending machines are taller than me so I end up jumping a lot and looking like an idiot), followed by another very dirty dime revealed by a sidewalk-hosing storeowner. I immediately plunk these nasty coins into the nearest vending machine and get acceptable coinage back in change.
