While looking through a roll of quarters I came across this 2005 Minnesota specimen with an "extra leaf" above the second tree.
Ken Potter had an article about this particular one back about 6-7 years ago... http://koinpro.tripod.com/Articles/...LikeDent.htm...
but I am unable to figure out if this is categorised as a DD or just a die chip. Any thoughts?

You can see one of the extra tree varieties here:

Seems like I have seen 2 or 3 different extra tree varieties, but I do not remember any looking like yours.

Thanks Pete. There are many different varieties of "extra trees" on this State Q design.

What I don't know is if they are classified as DD or not.

The article you linked addresses a die dent found on a Minnesota Quarter, not the multitude of DDRs also found on MN Quarters. Your picture is not clear enough to positively attribute it but the positioning does look very similar to Potter's die dent example.
