I think VG details works. Was this a dug up coin from a beach or farther away from salt water?

Quote: Found near Gainesville. I figured it was from inland, the pitting looks too nice to have come from a beach or near salt water, that would have absolutely killed it with corrosion. The pitting isn't too bad for being a dug coin. I really should detect more, my buddy in central Illinois is always finding great coins, last year he dug a nice VF20 1921 Merc out of the ground! He's found a few Seated coins along with a Three Cent Nickel. Not to mention the rings, and die cast toys. Great date to find, the 5th lowest mintage and worth a pretty penny even in this condition vermontensium!

Thank you westcoin! I detect here in Southern California, my home. I usually detect the beach (all modern coins) with a friend. There is a very old park out here, dating back to mid-1800's, that we have detected. Just a Wheatie so far, old button, and old bullet casing by my friend. Going out again next Tuesday :)

Vermontensium, Very cool find. You were down in my neck of the woods. Gainesville is around 1 hour south of us. There are MANY people who have found giant fossilized sharks teeth as well as Native American artifacts in that area. One of our trips a few years ago we found a 5 inch (rim to rim) tooth unbroken. It's a great area for searching for those so inclined. If your still down there look around the stream beds west of I75. You've got my "searching bug" itchin' again.
